Below the main map is a worldmap of antipodes (picture 3). It shows which landmasses are on the exact opposite of each other on the globe. To the left and right of the antipodes map are a map of the Pacific (picture 4) and Atlantic hemisphere. These two maps show which coastal lines are sinking and which are going upwards. The red lines show strings of volcanoes. Although the title has the year 1878 in it (when this map was first drawn) this copy is revised and printed in 1886 (which can be found in small print just below the map). This large map comes from the renowned Stieler's Hand-Atlas, printed in the city of Gotha, Germany. All maps from this beautiful atlas show the very high quality of German cartography at the time. Item is printed in the year 1886 and is a true antique. Total / leaf size is aprx. 37 x 47,5cm (15 x 19 inches). Condition of the print is good. Printed on very thick paper. Verso is blank.
